Devdigest is built so that your reading stays on your device. We (the developer) do not run a server that receives your sources, your reading history or what you save.
| When | What and where | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Refreshing your sources | Requests go directly from your phone to each source's own server (for example a blog, the Hacker News API at hacker-news.firebaseio.com, a podcast host). Those servers see your IP address, like when you visit them in a browser. | To fetch the stories you chose to follow |
| Loading images | Images load from the servers that publish them (you can choose Wi‑Fi only or never in Settings). | To show thumbnails |
| Searching podcasts | Your search words go to Apple's public iTunes Search API. | To find podcast feeds |
| Ads (only if ads are turned on in the free version) | Google AdMob receives device information and, on Android, the advertising ID, under your consent choices (shown in the EEA, UK and Switzerland). People with Pro see no ads. | To show a few clearly labelled "Sponsored" cards |
| Usage statistics and crash reports (on by default; switch off in Settings → "Anonymous usage and crash reports") | Google Firebase Analytics receives which features are used (for example "a source was added", "the brief was opened"), with an app-instance ID, the app version, phone model, country and language. Firebase Crashlytics receives crash reports (stack traces, app version, phone model). Never your sources, titles, links, searches, notes or private links. Firebase's advertising-ID collection is turned off. | To fix crashes and see which features help |
| Automatic error reports (only with the switch above on) | A short technical report (error type, code location, app version, phone model, language) to our Google Form, at most 5 a day. Error messages are removed because they could contain a link. | To fix errors that don't crash the app |
| Sending feedback | Only when you tap Send: your message, the app version and phone model, to our Google Form (Google stores it for us). Add an email address only if you want a reply. | To read and answer you |
| Invites | Invite links carry a random code through Google Play. If a friend sends you a thank-you link, it contains your code and a one-way hash of an ID that Android gives Devdigest on their phone (it can't be reversed or used by other apps). It goes only where your friend sends it; we never receive it. | To give the inviter 30 days of Pro, once per friend |
| Backups | Only when you export a backup, to the place you choose; Android's own device backup may include the library (never private links). | To restore your library |
We do not collect your name, contacts, location, photos, the articles you read or your search terms, and your email only if you write it in a message. We do not sell data. Google (Firebase, Forms, AdMob) acts as our service provider. Analytics data is kept for at most 14 months, crash reports for 90 days.
Everything on your phone can be deleted in the app (remove sources, unsave, reset what the feed learned) or by uninstalling. To delete usage data or a feedback message we received, write to us (see Support) with roughly when you sent it; we answer within 30 days. Ad privacy choices are in Settings when they apply. Questions: see Support.
Devdigest is not directed at children under 13.

Problems with a source? Open it in Sources: each one shows why it isn't loading and offers Retry. Lost something? Saved stories never expire, and Settings → Export backup keeps a copy.
Write to us here, or in the app under Settings → Send feedback.
